Zoo Fun

January 4, 2016

Welcome to my first completed layout of 2016.  Hope you have had a great start to the new year.
This layout has several new things for me…gesso and the packaging technique that I learned from Adele at Inkie Quill’s videos.  So I used gesso on the page and them some modeling paste.  I  took some mist on a piece of old packaging, added water, and them smooshed it over the modeling paste.  I wanted to mimic the splashes the penguin was making in he water on the zoo smart car.
The paper is from an old Lawn Fawn collection called into the woods.  I didn’t have any embellishments from this collection…if it even had any…so I cut some of the critters from the paper to use.  I figured they were appropriate since the page was about a trip to the zoo.
I used a sketch from Stuck?Sketches and then used some Simple Stories photo flap thingies to add more photos. The journalling is also under the floppy thing so that the memory is there, but not adding to the busyness of the layout.
Hope you enjoyed my attempt at trying something new!

Tiny Fan

December 22, 2015

Being home this week I managed to get a layout done last night!  I used the sketch from GrandDiva’s Creative Corner.  Even though I made a few adjustments if you go to her site I think you can see the sketch was used fairly closely.
The paper is from Echo Park’s That’s My Boy collection.  I’ve saving that paper with the football field on it for something special.  Since these are pictures of the Super Bowl I thought it was the perfect time to pull it out.  The modeling paste was left white and put through a Tim Holtz stencil.  I believe this one was just called something like splatters.
Well – off to get more cookies in the oven…until next time!

Kiss Kiss

November 25, 2015

I originally printed this photo for my 2014 December daily, but decided to make it it’s own layout because of the story behind it.  I’ve obviously been holding onto it for some time, but I needed to have the perfect paper, since most of my sash is boy themed, and a great sketch.  That finally happened when I received my October creative kit from My Creative Scrapbook and say the November week 2 sketch over at Let’s Get Sketchy.
The papers are from the Echo Park Story of Our Family Collection that came in the kit. I added some modeling paste mixed with Heidi Shine, and put through a Heidi Swapp stencil as well.  The title is an old pack of Thickers that I’ve had for ages.
Now for the story behind the layout.  Last year our son, who was four at the time, started getting camera obsessed.  Rather than be in the pictures he always wanted to take them.  While I was taking pictures of us putting up the Christmas tree he asked if he could take some.  With digital pictures I figured it didn’t hurt to say yes.  He says…I want to take a picture of you and Daddy kissing…umm ok…I figured we’d end up with chopped off heads to be out of focus – etc.  Nope – he got a perfect shot.  I know adults who have had trouble getting us in the same photo since there is a foot difference between us!  Needless to say…a camera was on his Christmas list last year!

Love You Layout!

September 11, 2015

Oh my gosh guys – I have been so busy that I’ve been neglecting my blog 🙁  I’m finally back today though with a new sketch from ScrapMuch!?

You can see how I left the circle out and changed the orientation of my photos, but otherwise left the sketch alone.  I used the Bella Blvd Hello Autumn collection for all my accent papers, and the wood grain is from Studio Calico.  The orange leaves and green branches are modeling paste mixed with acrylic paint. Some Doodlebug Fall enamel dots, Thickers and I was good to go.

Monster Jam

June 21, 2015

So I’ve had my eye on the creative kit from My Creative Scrapbook for a couple months now.  Last week they had a promotion that if you signed up you received a free Julie Nutting doll stamp and prize pack.  Well that was enough that it tipped me over the edge.  What I really liked was you could sign up for two months as a trial.  I have signed up previously for kits that require a six month commitment and after two months of lousy kits realized I was stuck.  I like have the chance to try these first.
My first kit came yesterday, and I dove right in.  I will have an open box going on on you tube shortly if you want to see what all was in the kit.  It was jammed packed of things that matched!  That was my frustration with a previous kit club…you got bits and pieces from this and that collection/designer and nothing really matched anything else.  This could all be used together. The kit also came with a copy of the monthly sketch from their blog called My Creative Sketches, which is what I used for the layout below.  The paper is from the kit and is part of the Bella Blvd Color Chaos collection.  The orange dots are modeling paste mixed with pearl pen and put through a Tim Holtz stencil.  The embellishments come from various companies including Freckled Fawn, Doodlebug, Queen & Co and Stampin’ Up.
I don’t usually work on black, but I’m trying to get out of my comfort zone.  It will definitely take some getting used to.  How do you think it came out?  Until next time…Keep Scrapping!
