Mother Daughter Scrapbook Layout

September 16, 2020

Hey crafty friends!  I’m back today with a layout for both the Paper Issues scraplift challenge and for Challenge Yourself’s thankful challenge.  I did double duty with this Mother Daughter Scrapbook Layout.

I choose to use this photo of our daughter and I on our recent socially distanced beach vacation.  We always book our week the year before so this trip was planned well before the pandemic.  I looked into getting our funds back, and we couldn’t, so we took the trip and did our best to maintain distance.  We didn’t do rides or arcades…just beach and supper.  It was actually quite nice as we came up with more things to do as a family.  I’m thankful for the time away to recharge, I’m thankful for the yummy food we ate after this picture and I am of course thankful for the munchkin in the photo with me.

The Paper Issues layout I used as inspiration had torn edges.  I have tried numerous times to do that, but I just isn’t something I feel like I pull off well.  What I did instead was to use my edge distressed to at least give it a roughed up edge. I then distressed them with my Tim Holtz Scattered Straw mini ink pad and blender.

All the papers, embellishments and washi come from the Simple Stories Kate and Ash collection.  I head off on buying this one, but I had seen so many cute pages using in on Pinterest that on my last store order I included it for myself.  After completing this page…I’m so glad I picked it up.

Well,  I think that’s it for now.  I hope to be off to creating more soon because to be real…this cyber school thing is kicking this momma’s butt!  Until next time…stay safe…stay sane and stay crafty.

Wedding Scrapbook Layout – Mixed Media

January 24, 2018

Hi crafty friends!  Thanks for joining me here today and I share my wedding scrapbook layout for the challenge over at Southern Girls Challenge.  Team Lou’s challenge this time was to use some sort of circle embellishments.

I am working with three photos from my sister’s wedding and a VERY old 2015 My Creative Scrapbook Kit.  The kit featured items from Doodlebug’s Sweet Things Collection*, and I created two other layouts already with this kit….We Belong Together  and Love.  All of these layouts are in the same album so I wanted this one to have a different feel, and decided to try some mixed media.

The paper was primed first with Liquitex Gesso* before adding Heidi Swapp Pink Color Shine* using the packaging technique.  Mixed media isn’t something that I normally do, but it was surprisingly easy. I am also pleasantly surprised with the way it turned out.

After the mixed media dried I used a sketch from Paper Issues to help me get started on my paper layers.  I tried to use papers that added interest, but made the photos pop.  Many of the papers were far to busy or had cutesy animals on them so more neutral patterns were better.

What is also unique about this wedding layout is there are three photos.  To create make shift flip flaps I used Simple Stories 6×8 pocket protectors cut in half.  When you lift the first photo to the left it reveals another. Then you lift that to the right and voila…one more.  The flip flaps I ordered came the day after this layout was finished. Of course!

To meet the Southern Girls embellishment challenge I used two wooden buttons with hearts in the upper right and lower left.  I also wanted to enter the Lasting Memories challenge to use the word happy hence the sticker in the lower left.  Some matching hearts and additional splatters and I called it done.

I appreciate you reading my rambling and checking out what I create.  You can watch this layout being created on my youtube channel. Until next time!

Crayola Experience

March 3, 2017

Back with another layout this week! This one for was for Scraplift Sunday at the Paper Issues Facebook group.  They give you an awesome layout to lift each week.
The design of this was very out of my comfort zone with the triangles, but hey…gotta try something new.  The papers are from Bella Blvd and were included in an old My Creative Scrapbook creative kit.  I have gotten seven layouts out of the kit so far and there is still a lot of product left.
Hope to be back soon with more great inspiration, and thanks as always for checking my layouts out and commenting.

That Was Awesome

December 23, 2015

I know it’s not Sunday, but I finally got to sit down and work on the Scraplift Sunday piece from the Paper Issues Facebook group.
My take follows the form of the layout fairly closely.  My main paper choices were the Carta Bella line Boy Oh Boy.  Several of my embellishments also came from that line, but I also have a few in there from Basic Grey, Close To My Heart, A Flair For Buttons and the title from Heidi Swapp.
Hope you like my take!
