Craft Supply Organization-Craft Room Challenge

January 24, 2018

Good day everyone and welcome to week four of the craft room challenge!  This week we were focusing on craft supply organization.  This is my favorite part of clean up. I LOVE to organize and I have several ideas to share with you that I think are just great! If you want to see where I started in this journey be sure to check out week one.

Bling/Tools

The first thing I want to share with you is how I store my bling and most used tools.  The bling includes, enamel dots, stickles, gems, single colored brads, etc.  Each color (or color family if I don’t have many) gets their own white basket*.  The baskets come in a set of three from Dollar Tree. so it is very affordable to separate them this way. When I want a certain accent piece I can now just pull out that color basket and everything is right there.  I also placed some shelf liner* on the bottom of the drawer so nothing slides around.

The tools are the ones that I used the most – think tape runner, sticker maker and tiny attacher. This is the top drawer of my Alex cube so it’s very accessible when I’m creating and easy for clean up after.

Washi/Glitter

I store my washi tape and glitter.  The storage is VERY similar to the bling, but I use long baskets again from Dollar Tree.  I attempt to keep them color organized, but this drawer is our 22 month olds favorite to play in.  I figure if arranging washi keeps her entertained for 20 minutes it really doesn’t matter what order they are in!

The glitter is in tiny bottles also from the dollar tree. I find these are perfect for putting a spoon in to scoop glitter out and the opening is large enough that pouring back in is easy.  There’s less mess this way for me.

Store washi and glitter easily and inexpensive

Embellishments

This is one of my favorite storage tips.  I bought a bunch of 4×6 plastic photo cases off eBay (it was the cheapest place at the time) and each collection gets its own case.  If I have two collections of the same topic, and from the same company, they will go in the case together each in a zip top bag to save space.  I am still toying with how I want to label these.  I don’t really care for the post it note as it block me from seeing what’s in the case, but I don’t want a permanent level either since when a collection is done the case will be re-used.  Any tips for me?

6×6 paper pads.

I have been using this method for a long time, and it’s still working wonderfully for me.

Week Five Mission

I hope those tips gave you some ideas, and now it’s one to week five!  This week we are to clean and decorate…if that’s your thing.  Vacuum that floor – dust the shelves and hang some things up that make you happy and inspire you to create. I can’t wait to share the reveal with you!

Craft room Challenge – Week Two

January 10, 2018

Welcome to week two of the craft room challenge!  If this is your first week with us it’s not to late to join in, and have a more organized space by the end of the month.

Last week we decided to tackle our work surfaces since you can’t create anything new if you can’t see your desk right!? Let me remind you of what my work area looked like before.

There was literally a space just large enough for a single sheet of paper to work on, and it wasn’t exactly conducive to creating a project. As a result, I found myself avoiding creating, and, for me, week number one was the most needed out of any week we have.

First, I started with taking everything off the desk and giving it a good clean down.  I used the tools of my vacuum, and got all the dust and bits of paper off to start. Then I used just some baby wipes on the surface since it’s chalk board paint.  The little spinning caddy even got a good vacuuming.

With a pristine surface I decided to only put back what I really wanted on the desk.  While I would love to have just the work mat on the desk that isn’t really practical.  Instead I went with just the work mat, the spinning caddy, with reduced items, and my iPad holder.  The iPad holder is a must as I often use sketches to begin my creations.

I love my clean desk

What did I do with the rest of the things – well….that leads to week two because our mission this week is to purge and sort.  Get ready with those empty boxes or bags and be sure to make one for sell, donate/recycle/give away and don’t forget to have a trash bag.  This week will make a huge difference in how your rooms looks since deciding what can go will make it easier to give everything staying a place. Having a place will allows you to return it easily when you’re finished using it.  I will be focusing on my stamps and well as all the furniture I have on my walls.  The goal is to get things off the walls and have less of a walls closing in on you feeling.

How To Safely Repair Your Children’s Favorite Board Books

May 7, 2017

Hey Scrappy Friends!  I’m here today with an off the page idea for your Best Glue Ever.  If you’ve had children, or even know a child, you know that every darn thing goes right in the mouth when the are smaller.  It’s no different here at our house, and our little one chewed part of the cover off of one of our favorite books in a series.

I wanted to repair the book, but how to do that in a child friendly way was stumping me.  Plain white glue didn’t have enough hold.  Tape could be chewed off.  Crafting glues weren’t safe if kiddo decided to have a snack again…enter the Best Glue Ever.
Since the glue is non-toxic if baby girl decides to chew again I know I don’t have to worry.  I applied a very thin line around the outside part that was lifted. When I say tiny…I really mean tiny.  It doesn’t take much of this to get a great hold.

I then just let the book sit with the glue bottle on top for a little.  I’d say at most it sat an hour, and it didn’t need that long I just happened to be cooking supper.  You also don’t need to weight the items done, but since mine was soooo very bent I figured it couldn’t hurt.

And now look at this fabulous result!  One of our favorite books is almost as good a new.  Well, except for the teeth marks 🙂

I hope this gives you a new idea of how to use your Best Glue Ever, and saves your favorite story books.  Oh, and before I go….here’s a picture of the culprit.  Until next time…stay crafty!

How to easily add embellishments to your craft project

April 23, 2017

Hey Scrappy Friends!  I’m here today with a new to me product that I wanted to share with you because it’s changing the way I craft.  It’s the Embellie Gellie by ScraPerfect.
Previously I was using the following pick up stick produced by another company.
The problem with the above is see the green stuff…it only stays sticky for about three embellishments and then you have to pull it off and advance more.  I mean seriously…who only put three sequins or gem type things on a layout.  I was advancing sometimes three times each layout.  Enter the Embellie Gellie.
Embellie Gellie helps to pick up and attach small embellishments to all your craft projects
It comes with a wooden wand and the tacky portion in a small re-sealable container.
Since you only use a small portion at a time I chose to score mine with my Tim Holtz craft knife so that I knew they were relatively proportional.
Pull off the portion you scored and roll it around the flat end of the wooden wand.  You can mold it to the shape you need for your embellishment.  For a smaller one I used a point and a larger just a more round end.

You’re now ready to start attaching embellishments.  Touch the wand to the embellishment and you’re ready to go.   So much easier to perfectly place than using your fingers or having the item pop away from you when using tweezers.
You can always pick up multiple embellishments to transfer to your project.  I tried picking up both the flat and rounded side of these homemade enamel dots to test and it worked on both sides.
You can these use the pointed end of the wand to do any minor adjustments or push the embellishment further in your dot of adhesive.  Game changer my friends…let me tell you.
I then pop my tacky portion back in the box and it’s ready to use again the next time I craft.  How easy is that and less expensive than buy the other product over and over since it runs out so quickly.
