February 2019 Stretch The Sketch Layout

February 17, 2019

Hey crafty friends!  I’m here today sharing a layout/process video for the February 2019 Stretch The Sketch Layout collaboration.  What is sketch the sketch you may be wondering.  Well, each month a group of ladies take a sketch and makes something other than a 12×12 layout.  Some ladies make art journal pages, double page spreads, traveler’s notebook spreads, 8.5 x 11, etc.  There is no limit as long as it’s not 12×12.

Also, the group of ladies participating each month varies.  Some ladies do every month, and others, like myself, just do it when we are able to fit in it.  The nice thing about the flexibility is that each month there is new/different people so the interpretations are always new and fresh.

This month we are working with this sketch:

Come watch how our group takes a 12x12 scrapbook sketch and makes any other size project in the February 2019 Stretch the Sketch layout series.

I chose to take the sketch and make a 9×12 single page layout with it.  The kit I used was from Felicity Jane, and after much photo debate I went with one of the shots from our daughters 2nd birthday.  Our photographer Laura did such a wonderful job capturing Julia’s personality despite her not watching to sit still for even two seconds.

Please join in watching me create the layout:

If you hop on over to the youtube video you can also find the links to the videos all the other ladies participating this month. I hope you’ll give them all a watch and find some inspiration for your next project.  Until next time….stay crafty!

February Papercraft Challenge

February 8, 2019

If you haven’t been following along on my Facebook page I invite you to do that now!  Each month I issue a challenge of some kind.  Sometimes the challenge is a mood board, a sketch or something totally different.  The February papercraft challenge is based on an amazing mood board.

February Papercraft Challenge

The amazing February papercraft challenge mood board comes from Georgie The Content Creator.  I loved that it was soft and dreamy like we think of love, but it didn’t scream Valentine’s Day.  Don’t stick to just the colors though, feel free to think outside the box.  Do the trees somehow inspire you?  Do the flower petal in the left make you think of dragon scales….go for it!  The whole point is to get you creating and using your stash.

When you are done creating head on over to my Facebook page.  Pinned to the top of the page is the challenge announcement.  Add a picture of your creation to that post.  If there are five, or more, entries for the month random winner will be chosen for a gift certificate for the shop!

I can’t wait to see what you create, and I hope this inspires you to get in your area and have some fun.  Until next time…stay crafty!

Grandfather and Grandson Layout

February 6, 2019

Hey Crafty Friends!  Can you believe I’m back with another share so soon!?  Don’t get used to it…haha.   I’m trying very hard to get back to posting more frequently.  The little one has stopped napping, and it has taken me some getting used to to find a posting schedule again.  This time I’m sharing a layout with you for Southern Girls Challenge Blog.  We were challenged to do something with animals so I created this grandfather and grandson layout of them watching the horses.  Far fetched I know!

Male layouts are hard - multi generation male layours...even harder. This layout grandfather and grandson layout combines both.

When our son was little my parents watched him two days a week.  He loved animals and diggers…what boy doesn’t right!?  When the weather was nice they went to local construction sites to watch the diggers and also local arms to watch the animals and horses.  My mom captured this photo and I wanted our son to have it documented since his grandparents are so special to him.

The paper is a VERY old collection from Carta Bellas called Boy Oh Boy.  I’ve been trying to kill this collection for years and I think I may actually still have bits and pieces laying around.  This layout was done with the 6×6 paper pad though.  I keep looking for ways to use all the 6×6 pads I have up, and I’m still not making a dent.  Do you have any tips?

Thank you for checking out my share today, and I hope you’ll pop over to Southern Girls and check our what the rest of the girls created.  As always, if you participate please remember to leave me a link so I can be sure to check it out.  Also, leave me your 6×6 pad paper tips below too!  Until next time…stay crafty!

Father Son Bike Trip Scrapbook Layout

February 6, 2019

Hey crafty friends!  Thanks for joining me today as I share this Father Son Bike Trip Scrapbook Layout.  I was inspired by one of the case files over at Color, Stories, Inspiration.  They have three pieces to use as inspiration, but the one that really struck me right away was case file 272.

Color Stories Inspiration case 272

The first thing that jumped out at me about the case was the children, or they could be elves, were outside playing in the tree with birds and squirrels.  I had photos of my husband and son out enjoying nature on an 18 mile bike ride.  Totally fits right!?

The light background of the inspiration scene also provided inspiration for the background paper I chose to use.  I don’t usually use patterned paper for my background, but this one wasn’t so overwhelming that I thought I could work with it.

There was also paper with bicycles on it, and since this was a bike trip, that obviously had to go on the page as well.  There was also one bicycle sticker on the sticker sheet, but can I tell you how huge it was! This was one of those collections where all the ephemera was just so large.  My solution was to cut the bicycle off the front sheet where it shows you all the paper partners in the kit.  It was just the perfect size!

The large photo on the page is 4 but about 5.5.  The two smaller photos are 2×2 made using the collage function in picmonkey.  With the college function I can print six 2×2 photos on one 4×6 paper.  I’ll plan two pages that have small photos and print one 4×6…saves my photo paper and ink that way.

Thanks for sticking with me as I explained this page.  I hope to do at least one more of the case files this month so keep a look out for that.  In the mean time….stay crafty!

Double Page Wedding Scrapbook Layout

January 31, 2019

Hey friends!  I’m here today sharing with you a layout I did for the Craft Maven Getaway channel using an 2018 kit from Close to My Heart.  The layout items were generic enough you could have used it for anything, but as I’m trying to finish my wedding album this year I used it to create a double page wedding scrapbook layout.

I don’t do many double pages, but the light green was the color of our bridesmaid’s dresses, and we had loads of flower so this kit fit perfectly.  The left page has a photo of me and two of my husband and I.  We got married right when less formal wedding photography started becoming a trend so some of our photos are fun and some are posed.

Come find out how to use a kit to quickly make a double page wedding scrapbook layout. It can't get any faster than this!

On the right hand side of the page there was space for two 4×6 photos and a large amount of journalling.  I chose to use the paper for the right hand side under my photos since they were smaller than 4×6 to help fill the area.  They are photos of me and our groomsmen (my brother and friend Blaine) and one of me that the photographer took in a mirror so you can see how very long my hair was.

I added my journalling after the photos were taken because I wasn’t so sure what I wanted to say right away.  Thank you for checking my layout out and here is the video if you’re so inclined:
